UNM lobo WELCOME CENTER

The University of New Mexico was in need of a starting point on campus for new students, visiting members of the community, and all activities that required general information of the campus. With the new UNM Lobo Welcome Center, UNM now has a new facilities to share information that is of the most relevant and pertinent to any visitor on campus. The purpose of the renovation is to update the historic John Gaw Meem building while being sensitive to goals of preservation. The space was once a dormitory and has served as office spaces. The new function will provide an introduction to the campus and beginning point for all visitors. The Welcome Center houses a courtyard, event space, exhibition space, a ‘great’ room, and admin offices for UNM and prospective students. With a limited budget, M + Y updated infrastructure, interiors, and function of the building, giving it a new presence to the campus that both embraces its past and looks to the future. New, theater-like auditorium for presentations will show off the latest videos and materials to attract students and faculty alike to the campus of the University of New Mexico. Sited between the main campus and the UNM Health Science Center educational facilities, the goal of creating a synthesized shared vision of campus life and information can be achieved in the student-centric exhibition. The history and any exciting developments of the campus and university will be showcased for all visitors.
